sam-boy is 2

sammy turned 2 on the 23rd of june. luckily, he doesn't have quite the fire that jack did at this age, he's a little more tender, but he sure does have a stubborn personality that is all his own. he's a sweetheart and his smile still melts my heart.

this boy l o v e s his blankie. many is the time i have caught him loving on his blanket. he loves to roll around on it and hang out, just the two of them. and more than the blankie itself, he loves the tag that is on the corner of the blankie. he grabs his blankie and asks "co-nuh, pease." we find the desired corner which he promptly grabs and then sticks his two middle fingers in his mouth. every time. without fail. i love it.
this is the only actual birthday shot. he was not in the picture mood and i never have the energy to pin him down. we tried with aunt jamie and it kind of worked. notice the toothbrush on the table. this kid loves toothbrushes. he carries them around, sucks and chews on them, and occasionally uses them as weapons. it's a handy 2-for-1. this is important for the following story.

so the presents...sam starts to "open" presents, which is really jack doing it for him. sam is not as enthusiastic as jack would like. they open balls, sand and water toys, a cool puzzle, etc. the main event is supposed to be this sweet wagon that the grandparents chipped in for. it's awesome. red radio flyer with seats that fold up and down, drink holders, snack holders, the works. it's rad. and he loves wagons. he loves to ride and pull them. so i was super excited. we roll it out and we barely get an acknowledgment.

THEN

my brother brad grabs a gift bag that i had put a ball in, of which sam had already opened. brad shoves something in it and says to sam "here's your last present, buddy", courtesy of his cute girlfriend, lydia. sam sticks his hand in and pulls out a brand new toothbrush (lydia is a dental assistant) and sam goes WILD. he's yelling "a toofbwush! a toofbwush!" and jumping up and down.

lesson learned. next time, avoid the $80 dollar wagon/bike/scooter and go for the FREE toothbrush obtained from lydia's dental office. what was i thinking?

summerfest

we sure do love summerfest. rides, food, throw some polynesian dancers in and we're good to go.

i love jack's face in this one.

studly studs

besides the usual crazy that is the norm around here, there are a couple things going on in this post.

1. after a morning bath for the boys the other day, shawn decides to spike their hair. jack felt pretty suave and looked in the mirror many a time that morning.

2. sam is just starting to understand what the camera does. so lately, every time i pull it out and tell him to smile, he goes into this blinking frenzy. i don't know if it's a prep to a smile or what, but just when i think he's done batting his eyes and press the button...aaaannnnddd no. the eyes are closed. every time. see for yourself.

here's a couple that worked out. aren't they dreamy? all we need to do now is bleach the tips of those babies and they'd look identical to shawn, junior year of high school....remember the bleached tips? bwa-ha-ha!

mmmmkay, forgot about this one. sam has just met his new best friend, the mint oreo. we love them.

birthday #28

somewhere in all of this, shawn turned 28. we have both agreed that it is an ugly number. waaay too close to 30. but he's rockin' it anyway.

i love you, my husband.

some randoms

this is all you get of easter because i never remember to take pictures. grandma gibbs gave the boys easter outfits which they love. and they always have to wear them at the same time.

my parents went to italy for a couple weeks, so the twins spent a lot of time with us. my boys looooove their uncles.

birthday #4

okay, i'm just gonna lay it out there. i'm never gonna be the mom with the blow-your-mind theme parties that are perfectly organized for every birthday. ain't gonna happen. in fact, pretty sure i'm only gonna do what is necessary to get by...presents and some cake. i console myself by thinking that this is all they really care about anyway. and pretty sure, since jack's birthday happened to land on the same day as our weekly playgroup, i casually mushed the party and playgroup all into one. no invites needed. check.

remember my pitiful attempt at a baseball cake last year? the one where i ran out of red gel and couldn't even finish the strings? sadly, i can't decide if these cupcakes turned out any better.
jack's buddies: evan, tyson, christian, and holly
ps where is franklin?

we also had a big shindig with our families. my boys are very lucky to have so much family that loves them. we had a big game of kickball, pizza, cake, and presents.

you think girls love tangled? my boys looove it, and sam asks shawn to sing him tangled songs every night at dinner. does shawn know them? why yes, yes he does.
the ultimate tough guy gear. thanks to the scotts!
sam loved the scooter.

my fam hadn't seen tangled yet, so we all sat down to watch together. pretty sure this was my mom's favorite moment.

messing around

i was laying on my side and sam came and plopped himself down.
never to be outdone.
